TOPIC: A COG IN THE WHEEL

John 12:1-5
[1] Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had been dead, whom He had raised from the dead.
[2] There they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him.
[3]. Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.
[4] But one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, who would betray Him, said,
[5]. “Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?"
EXPOSITION
In every home, community, city, nation or organisation, there have always been some human cogs in the wheels of progress. In all climes, throughout time, certain sets of people have proven to be really problematic and incorrigible. They are discontent with everything; they are stubborn, and ever resisting instructions and authority.
The Lord Jesus Christ had this condemnable case to grapple with in Judas Iscariot. This high-ranking officer among the Lord's disciples had serious difficulties keeping the ministry's account records properly (Jn. 12:6). He was always uncomfortable with the protocols and discipline of the ministry. He was grossly dissatisfied and seriously in conflict with the doctrines of his leader, just like Gehazi (2 Kgs. 5:20ff). He was always antagonistic toward his Master's welfare (Jn. 12:1-5). He also proved to be unimpressed by the growing popularity of Jesus, by approaching His Master's adversaries for compromise (Matt. 26:14-16). He eventually led a killer squad against Him (Matt. 26:47-50). How sad!
Judas chose to be a problem to his Master, Jesus. He paid dearly for it. Don't be a problem in any situation. No wonder, Paul admonishes us under inspiration, never to be the source of any problem or fracas anywhere, with any people (Rom. 12 18,19). Cooperate with the Holy Spirit to be the solution to the countless challenges people are facing around you as today commemorates International Day of Cooperative. Don't be another Jonah or Judas Iscariot!
