TOPIC: THE TROUBLERS OF ISRAEL

MEMORISE

     He who troubles his own house will inherit the wind. And the fool will be servant to the wise of heart (Proverb 11:29).

READ:

1 Kings 18:15-18

[15]. Then Elijah said, “As the Lord of hosts lives, before whom I stand, I will surely present myself to him today.”

[16]. So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him; and Ahab went to meet Elijah.

[17]. Then it happened, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to him, “Is that you, O troubler of Israel?”

[18]. And he answered, “I have not troubled Israel, but you and your father’s house have, in that you have forsaken the commandments of the Lord and have followed the Baals.

EXPOSITION 

        A true prophet fears no man. He is never afraid to stand alone, was because he knows the truth. King Ahab was charged to be the troubler of Israel with his idolatry. Prophet Elijah was courageously undeterred in his divinely motivated resolve to condemn the worship of Baal among God's people, championed by Ahab and followed by the Israelites (1 Kgs. 17 1, 18:21). God punished them with a no-rain situation; not even a single drop of dew upon the earth for three and a half years-terrible. Crops failed, cattles died, sheep licked their own sores, and the people suffered as well. What a divine judgement upon an apostate nation!

        Imagine the myriads of the so-called 'solemn national prophetic prayer gatherings' our nation witnesses weekly, yet with many unanswered prayers and attendant woes, individually and nationally (cf. Isa. 1:15-17). Just as prayer camps multiply, evil in the society keeps spreading astronomically, the reason being that countless of these prayer consultants and their faithfuls are troublers of themselves and their communities/nations. Where do you stand among the bad eggs hiding behind serving national interest and spirituality to perpetrate evils with all rationalisations? Note: *As righteousness leads to life, so he who pursues evil pursues it to his own death* (Prov. 11:19). Whatever position, privilege, opportunity and influence you wield today, do not be a troubler of people As Joseph feared to sin against God (Gen. 39-9), and Samuel called for a national audit of his service (1 Sam. 12: 3-5), let your service to your family, nation, workplace, organisation, and church be of a truce, not troubler, God helping.

2. O Lord, silence every troubler of Israel around me.

3. Lord, cause every troubler of this nation to repent before Your sledgehammer falls on them irrevocably.
