TOPIC: WORK SO THAT YOU CAN EAT
MEMORISE
For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat (2 Thessalonians 3:10).
READ:
Genesis 1:1-6
[1]. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
[2]. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
[3]. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
[4]. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.
[5]. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.
[6]. Then God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.”
EXPOSITION
God, the Creator of the universe, has set a tone for life and godliness in the story of creation. Thus, there are several lessons to learn and apply to our lives and living. First is the principle of hard work. Sadly, these days, people want to make money without working, hence the prevalence of ritualists, armed robbers, kidnappers, etc. Youths are trooping into cybercrimes by the day. No thanks to governments that aren't creating jobs to get them engaged. Nevertheless, the Bible advocates that we work with our hands. Even with or without government employment, you can be self-employed. Be creative and get yourself engaged with a particular trade, God helping you. Take a cue from our God who made the heavens and earth; He employed Himself, so to say, and worked tirelessly for 6 days, before resting on the 7th day. You don't have any excuse for being jobless. *The admonition is to mind your own business and to earn your living by your own efforts* (1 Thess 4:11b CEI).
Anyone who will not work shouldn't eat. It is very clear from this principle, that, anyone who refuses to work is not of God. So, what is your occupation? They asked Jonah the same question on his way to Tarshish (Jon. 1:8). Your occupation is anything that occupies you, with the intent of getting a reward. It is what God has given you to meet the needs of humanity with the attendant remunerations. Dear reader, a jobless man is a godless man! What is your work? What is your occupation? What occupies you, legitimately? Be hard working, as you await unimaginable reward from God.

PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, I rebuke the spirit of laziness in me, which can cause me hunger and penury, in Jesus' name.
2. Ask God for the grace of godly creativity and self-reliance that makes one an employer of labour.
3. Tell God to open the eyes of the government and make them to be responsive to their responsibilities.
