TOPIC: WHEN SATAN VISITS...

MEMORISE

    For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body (James 3:2).

READ:

Genesis 3:1-7

[1]. Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

[2]. And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden;

[3]. but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’”

[4]. Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.

[5]. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

[6]. So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.

[7]. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.

EXPOSITION

     The Bible warns anyone who thinks he is standing to beware, lest he falls (1 Cor 10:12). So many spiritual giants have been floored by the devil, because of carelessness and complacency. This enemy of our souls has several ways by which he monitors and pushes man to fall from grace to grass. May he not succeed over you, in Jesus' name. However, you need to know that the devil acts on information to get at you, and the information is mostly got from the unsuspecting victim, directly or indirectly.

      Our text today brings to the fore the case of Adam and Eve versus the ancient serpent who worked through the unsuspecting wife to finish them. So the wife was the unsuspecting informant that the devil came through. May you not stumble and cause others to stumble, in Jesus' name. The enemy wanted to attack the family, but of course, he didn't have the full details; the devil is not omniscient, just like he is not omnipresent (cf. Job 1:7). For him to attack, he would need to make enquiries. To do this, he would need to visit, and subtly push fact- finding questions to the victim. When the devil visits you, be careful lest you sheepishly cough out your sensitive information, like he disguised in Delilah to get at the highly anointed Samson (cf. Matt 16:25). Don't be deceived. Learn from how he came to Jesus, only to be disappointed; he found nothing in Him (Jn. 14:30).
