TOPIC: THE BASIS OF FAITH

BIBLE READING:

MATTHEW 22:37-40

37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

KEY VERSE:

“Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.” Colossians 3:13

MEDITATION:

The faith we have in God is anchored on the two levels stated in today's bible reading - love for God and love for our neighbour. Everyone will literarily tell you they love God. But God Himself gave us the litmus test for our claim.

First basis of faith in God is our love for Him, which easily manifests in what we give to Him and what we say about Him. For instance, the value you have for a person is revealed by what you give him, and what you say behind them. God himself so loved us that He gave us His best, Jesus Christ. (John 3:16). In the same vein, if you love God, you will give Him your best, which starts with giving your heart – your life and the best of your resources. King David said he cannot give God what costs him nothing (2 Sam 24:24).

The second manifestation of your love for God is what you say about Him. When last did you tell someone about Jesus Christ by way of verbal evangelism or lifestyle? If you love someone, you must talk glowingly about the person at all times, yet, this does not make the person perfect, for only God is!

Our basis of faith also hinges around the twin evidence of staying and enjoying God's presence in the place of prayer and the word (Psalms 91:1).

How can you prove to any non-believer that you love God or you love them?

PRAYER:

Father Lord, I ask for grace to declare to all the reason for my faith.
