THE ROOT OF JESSE

RBT: Isaiah 57-59

Memory Verse: “In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his place of rest will be glorious.” Isaiah 11:10, NIV

Bible Text: Isaiah 11:1-10

11:1 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. 

11:2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD— 

11:3 and he will delight in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; 

11:4 but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked. 

11:5 Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist. 

11:6 The wolf will live with the lamb, 

the leopard will lie down with the goat, 

the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. 

11:7 The cow will feed with the bear, 

their young will lie down together, 

and the lion will eat straw like the ox. 

11:8 The infant will play near the cobra’s den, and the young child will put its hand into the viper’s nest. 

11:9 They will neither harm nor destroy 

on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea. 

11:10 In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his resting place will be glorious.

Philip Auguste, king of France, before he went into one of his battles, removed his royal crown, setting it on a table with the inscription 'Au plus digne (to the worthiest). He asked his nobles, among others, to consider that the crown would be the prize of whoever was brave and contributed most to their victory. They entered the battle and returned victorious. One of the nobles, stepping forward, took on his hands the royal crown and, advancing towards the monarch, placed it on his head, saying 'Tu, O roi, es le plus digne' (Thou O king, art the worthiest). 

The passage for today is a messianic prophecy and what follows is a prophetic insight into the conditions that will exist on the earth during the millennial reign of the LORD. Jesus is the worthy King and the Most Excellency. 

Today, the Root of Jesse is our shield and banner at all times. Nothing in us can stand the test of time without His sustaining power. He is our source, from whom we all flow and flourish. Invite Him into your life today. With the Root of Jesse, your life is insured.

Insight: Jesus must be enthroned in our individual lives.

Prayer: LORD Jesus, let there be restoration of peace and glory in my life.
