CHRIST APOSTOLIC CHURCH THE LIVING WATER (January-December, 2023) DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE DATE: Wednesday, August 9, 2023 (International Day of the World's Indigenous People) TOPIC: GOD FIGHTS FOR HIS PEOPLE

CHRIST APOSTOLIC CHURCH

TOPIC: GOD FIGHTS FOR HIS PEOPLE

MEMORISE

     For I will defend this city, to save it for My own sake and for My servant David's sake (Isaiah 37:35).

READ:
Isaiah 37:33-38

[33]. "Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the king of Assyria: ‘He shall not come into this city, Nor shoot an arrow there, Nor come before it with shield, Nor build a siege mound against it.

[34]. By the way that he came, By the same shall he return; And he shall not come into this city,’ Says the Lord.

[35]. ‘For I will defend this city, to save it For My own sake and for My servant David’s sake.’”

[36]. Then the angel of the Lord went out, and killed in the camp of the Assyrians one hundred and eighty-five thousand; and when people arose early in the morning, there were the corpses—all dead.

[37]. So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and went away, returned home, and remained at Nineveh.

[38]. Now it came to pass, as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, that his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer struck him down with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. Then Esarhaddon his son reigned in his place.

EXPOSITION

       The history of the ancient Israelites is a valuable one to us, the spiritual Israelites as today commemorates International Day of the World's Indigenous People. Israel was the apple of God's eyes. He loved and still loves them to a fault. He elected them from among many nations that were even bigger, more sophisticated and better than they. Israel remains a foretaste of the kingdom God will establish (Amos 3:2a). Despite her sparse population among the nations of the world, and being surrounded by sworn foes, she remains unconquerable. Adolf Hitler, the German warlord, tried to annihilate all Jews within 24 hours but he failed. No battle against God's covenant people sees the light of the day.

       As a Christian, there is no doubt you face battles daily-physical, spiritual, emotional, marital, etc. But remain calm; we have the assurance of God's backing (Isa. 54:17; Jer. 1:19). The arrogant King Sennacherib of Assyria purposed to besiege God's people of Judah (Isa. 36:1). Despite that King Hezekiah of Judah tried to placate him, he stubbornly continued on a suicidal mission, just like the Egyptian Pharaoh; he died gruesomely. The manner of his death and the massacre of his 185,000 soldiers is a reminder of how God fights the battle of His people (Isa. 37:35). Imagine a single angel of the Lord killing 185,000 armed men overnight. If you rely on God totally, He will fight for you beyond your wildest imagination. Most times, we tend to become barriers to the victory the Lord has already put in place for us. We must fully carry out His orders whenever He commands. This guarantees our victory. Stop preventing the predetermined victory God is giving on behalf of His people. Align, and cooperate with Him.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:
CAC GHB 825

1. Christ, our mighty Captain, leads against the foe
 We will never falter, when he bids us go;
 Tho' His righteous purpose we may never know,
 Yet we'll follow all the way.

Chorus:
 Forward! Forward! 'tis the
 Lords command,
 Forward! forward to the
 promise land;
 Forward! Forward! Let the
 chorus ring
 We are sure to win with Christ
 our king.

2. Satan's fearful onslaughts cannot make us yield
 While we trust in Christ, our
 Buckler and our shield
 Pressing ever on the spirit's sword we wield,
 And we follow all the way.

3. Let our glorious banner ever be unfurled
 From its mighty stronghold evil shall be hurled;
 Christ, our mighty Captain, over comes the world,
 And we follow all the way.

4. Fierce the battle rages, but 'twill not be long,
 Then triumphant shall we join the blessed throng,
 Joyfully uniting in the victor's song
 If we follow all the way.

Amen.
