THE LIGHT OF MEN

RBT: Jeremiah 28-30

Memory Verse: “In him was life, and that life was the light of men.” John 1:4, NIV

Bible Text: John 1:1-5

1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

1:2 He was with God in the beginning.

1:3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

1:4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.

1:5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Science tells us that we need at least four basic elements to survive. They are water, air, food, and light. It is interesting that Jesus said, I am the living water (John 7:38). I am the bread of life (John 6:35). I am the light of the world (John 8:12). And Paul said of Jesus, “… he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else” (Acts 17:25).

Science was right, we need Jesus to live! In today's passage, John is teaching the Greeks that the Creator has stepped into His creation; and the Jews that; the Messiah has come to redefine what He meant by His Kingdom now.

In Him is light. The light indicates the power and holiness of God. God's light has been attacked by the forces of darkness, but the darkness has never extinguished the light. Jesus is the light of the world. It is a picture of the LORD coming to a people who are in twilight and leading them into a full life in the full light of the reality of His character.

As believers, the world should see the light of Christ in our lives.

Insight: Christ is the light of all mankind.

Prayer: My Father, let Your light shine brightly upon my path in Jesus' name.
