RBT: Lamentations 3-5

Memory Verse: “My son, do not go along with them, do not set foot on their paths.” Proverbs 1:15, NIV

Bible Text: Proverbs 1:10-16

1:10 My son, if sinful men entice you, do not give in to them.

1:11 If they say, “Come along with us;

let’s lie in wait for innocent blood, let’s ambush some harmless soul;

1:12 let’s swallow them alive, like the grave, and whole, like those who go down to the pit;

1:13 we will get all sorts of valuable things and fill our houses with plunder;

1:14 cast lots with us; we will all share the loot”—

1:15 my son, do not go along with them, do not set foot on their paths;

1:16 for their feet rush into evil, they are swift to shed blood.

The expectation of every parent is to see the children standing out in the crowd. A parent can do great things for the children when they make him or her proud.

In today's passage, Solomon was admonishing his son to live differently as a child of God. He listed some of the sinful activities that the young men of his age might want to entice him with. They are shedding innocent blood, ambushing harmless soul, looting or stealing to make themselves rich, or casting lots which is known as betting in our own time. All these were the vices the writer admonished his son to stay away from.

Who are your friends? Do the friends you keep glorify God? In a time like this when it seems the church is becoming worldly, do you stand out for Jesus? Majority may be doing what is wrong but when God says, “Don't do it”, you must obey because He is your Father and you are His son.

Will you stand out for righteousness even if the whole world forsakes you?

Insight: The fact that majority are doing it does not make it right! Stand out!

Prayer: Come what may LORD, help me to stand out for righteousness even if I am alone.
