BE AN EXAMPLE

RBT: Ezekiel 9-12

Memory Verse: “Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12, NIV

Bible Text: I Timothy 4:12-14

4:12 Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, inconduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

4:13 Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching.

4:14 Do not neglectyour gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you.

Every first-born child in a family, especially in the African context, is expected to live a responsible and an exemplary life. It is believed that everything he/she does will be emulated by the younger ones. Likewise, unbelievers are looking up to our exemplary lifestyle, as children of God. Timothy, a disciple of Paul the apostle, was instructed to teach the believers as a young minster. Paul charged him not to allow anyone to look down on him because of his youthfulness. He should be an example in speech, in character, in love, in faith and in purity. He encouraged him to devote himself to the study of the Scripture, to live it and teach it. Every Word of God you hear is meant for you to live a life God has approved, so that you can be an example for others to follow. As a child of God, when your lifestyle allows people to look down on you, you are bringing shame to the name of the Lord and to the body of Christ. You are the Bible the world is reading; your life can lead others to Jesus or scare them away. Therefore, be the right example.

Insight: A good exemplary lifestyle influences unbelievers to come to the Lord's fold.

Prayer: Lord, make me a good example of disciple of Christ to people.
