YOU CAN BE HOLY

RBT: Jeremiah 6-8

Memory Verse: “But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do.” 1 Peter 1:15, NIV

Bible Text: 1 Peter 1:13-16

1:13 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.

1:14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.

1:15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;

1:16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

An unidentified poet penned his idea of holiness in the poem below:

As the Lord is pure and holy,
We should live in godly fear;
Knowing that our souls were ransomed,
By the blood of One so dear.
Holiness is what we strive for,
As sojourners in the land.
Let us seek each other's welfare,
While we have the time at hand. – Anonymous

Likewise, in the passage for today, Peter is calling the church out of bondage in a spiritual Egypt, to move away from all dependence on carnal thinking; and to think and act as true ambassadors of Christ.

God's standard is holiness. Holiness, in Peter's era meant a life separated for the service of God. It was a word that meant action, but action for God's standard rather than man's standard. Your mind is the battlefield and it must be under the Holy Spirit's control, rather than the old desires of the world and the sinful nature you had before you met the LORD.

If you fail to apply the Word of God to your daily life, you will not be able to practise biblical holiness. It may be difficult for the unbeliever, but you can be holy.

Insight: Holiness is equivalent to an everlasting joy.

Prayer: LORD, let my life be fully consecrated unto You throughout my lifetime.
