RBT: Jeremiah 51-52

Memory Verse: “John said to the crowd coming out to be baptised by him, 'You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?” Luke 3:7, NIV

Bible Text: Luke 3:7-9

3:7 John said to the crowds coming out to be baptized by him, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

3:8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.

3:9 The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”

Some years ago, in the Eastern part of Nigeria, there was a rumour that military personnel were going about giving children compulsory immunisation. Some uneducated parents thought it would affect the development of the children. For this reason, they hurriedly went to schools to pick their children.

John the Baptist did not mince words in his message of salvation. He was courageous to rebuke the people of their sins and called them to repentance. They were convicted of their sins through the help of the Holy Spirit and gave themselves for baptism. He encouraged the crowd to produce good fruits worthy of repentance that would abide, so that they would not be cut off and burned like dry wood.

The expectation of God is for all to be saved. You are expected to produce good fruits worthy of emulation through your lifestyle and messages so that unbelievers around you can be saved. This will help them to flee from the wrath that is coming upon all who refuse Jesus Christ and do not bear spiritual fruits.

Insight: To flee from the wrath to come, you need Jesus in your heart and follow His steps.

Prayer: LORD, please help my life to produce good fruits so that I will not be a castaway.
