YOUR KING COMES

RBT: Ezekiel 23-24

Memory Verse: “Say to the daughter of Zion, 'See your King comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey,'” Matthew 21:5, NIV

Bible Text: Matthew 21:1-8

21:1 As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples,

21:2 saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me.

21:3 If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.”

21:4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:

21:5 “Say to Daughter Zion, ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’ ”

21:6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them.

21:7 They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on.

21:8 A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.

It is a common sight in Nigeria to see crowds line up to welcome politicians to their community during electioneering period. Some of the attractions for supporters include money, customised T-shirts, face-cap, foodstuffs and loud music. The unfortunate thing about many of these politicians is that they make empty promises to the electorates.

Jesus came close to the end of His ministry and needed to visit Jerusalem. Unlike politicians, He rode on a colt and donkey without any fanfare. He was very humble and not ashamed to use such a lowly means of transportation to ride to the fulfilment of God's purpose. A large crowd gathered around Him with their clothes spread on the road similar to the modern-day red carpet to welcome Jesus, the King. Jesus needed no mobilisation for the crowd for God had gone ahead of Him.

The obedience of the disciples to the instruction of Jesus is worthy of emulation by all believers. Jesus also displayed humility that He expects us to follow. Having fulfilled His earthly ministry, Jesus, the King of kings is coming back to take home His people who are living for His glory.

Will you be ready when He comes?

Insight: The King is coming for those who are following in His steps.

Prayer: Dear LORD, I receive grace to be humble and obedient
