TOPIC: TRUE HAPPINESS IS WITHIN, NOT WITHOUT!

BASIC SCRIPTURES: DEUTERONOMY 33:26-29

In 1948, Life magazine brought together a group of labour union representatives, industrial leaders, university scholars, and clergy to discuss what the framers of the United States Constitution had in mind when they referred to “the pursuit of happiness.” They agreed that steady work under good conditions at a living wage was absolutely essential. Some included the values of racial fairness, unselfishness, and integrity. This led one participant, a brilliant young woman who had been crippled by polio, to say, “It is my experience that suffering and pain are, unfortunately, great character builders — not that suffering is good in itself, but because it often helps to shift our expectation of happiness from without to a search for it from within.” Wow! When your source of happiness is due to a good job, fat salary, nice car, a good house and a good marital partner, it means that the day all these are gone, your happiness will also be extinguished! Great and long lasting happiness comes from within; happiness is not out there, it’s in you. Dada Vaswani opined: “True Happiness is an inner quality. It is a state of mind. If your mind is at peace , you are happy. If your mind is at peace, but you have nothing else, you can be happy. If you have everything the world can give – pleasure, possessions, power – but lack peace of mind, you can never be happy.” Happiness is a by-product of seeking an ever closer walk with God. When you do, you will find a depth of happiness that defies circumstances! Today’s first scripture Vs. 29 says: “Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! And thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and thou shalt tread upon their high places.” Look within as you fellowship with God daily and though the storms roar, YOU CAN DANCE IN THE STORM!
