CHRIST APOSTOLIC CHURCH THE LIVING WATER (January-December, 2023) DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE DATE: Monday, September 4, 2023 TOPIC: ALIVE FOR WHAT?

MEMORISE

     I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD (Psalm 118:17).

READ:

Psalm 118:5-18

[5]. I called on the Lord in distress;

The Lord answered me and set me in a broad place.

[6]. The Lord is on my side; I will not fear.

What can man do to me?

[7]. The Lord is for me among those who help me; Therefore I shall see my desire on those who hate me.

[8]. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.

[9]. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.

[10]. All nations surrounded me, but in the name of the Lord I will destroy them.

[11]. They surrounded me, yes, they surrounded me; but in the name of the Lord I will destroy them.

[12]. They surrounded me like bees; they were quenched like a fire of thorns; for in the name of the Lord I will destroy them.

[13]. You pushed me violently, that I might fall,

but the Lord helped me.

[14]. The Lord is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation.

[15]. The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents of the righteous; the right hand of the Lord does valiantly.

[16]. The right hand of the Lord is exalted; the right hand of the Lord does valiantly.

[17]. I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.

[18]. The Lord has chastened me severely,

but He has not given me over to death.

EXPOSITION

       The above memory scripture is among the regular and popular Bible verses every Dick and Harry loves to cram and quote, especially in troubling moments. Even a drunk man lying in the middle of an expressway claims it! The Scripture isn't for frivolities, it is inspired and can never expire (2 Pet. 1:21). In lines 8-10 of our text. David expressed his confidence in YAHWEH. In our memory Scripture, a common verse on people's lips, David claimed that he wouldn't die. not like an incantation, but so that he would continue in his declaration of God's works in the land of the living. He had been living to serve God's purpose on earth; and as long as what he was doing was godly. God wouldn't allow him to die. Dear devout, can you give any reason why God shouldn't allow you to die? King Hezekiah rejected the call of death by challenging God (Isa. 38:3). Give reasons why your Tabitha shouldn't die (Acts 9:36ff).

         The reason you must continue being relevant in God's programme is not that your exit would create vacuum that cannot be filled, but to complete your God-ordained assignment. Every actor/actress finishes his/her role having done with the script. So, until you are done with all God has for you, forget about death. You won't die before your time, but are you actually living to answer the question of what you live for? Many don't have the opportunities you have. One day, it will all end. It is better to start living for God, fulfilling destiny He gives. Arise and shine; your light has come

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:

CAC GHB 124

1. Rejoice, all ye believers,

    And let your lights appear;

    The ev'ning is advancing

    And darker night is near.

    The Bridegroom is arising,

    And soon will He draw nigh;

    Up, pray and watch and wrestle,

    At midnight comes the cry.

2. See that your lamps are burning,

    Replenish them with oil;

    Look now for your salvation,

    The end of earthly toil.

    The watchers on the mountain

    Proclaim the Bridegroom near;

    Go meet Him as He cometh,

    With Hallelujahs clear.

3. Ye wise and holy virgins,

    Raise your voices higher,

    Until in songs of triumph

    They meet the angel choir.

    The marriage feast is waiting,

    The gates wide open stand:

    Up up! Ye heirs of glory;

    The Bridegroom is at hand.

4. Our hope and expectation,

    O Jesus, now appear:

    Arise, Thou Sun, so long'd for,

    O'er this benighted sphere:

    With hearts and hands uplifted

    We plead, O Lord, to see

    The day of our redemption

    That brings us unto Thee.

Amen.
