BIBLE READING:

EXODUS 14:8-14

8 And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel: and the children of Israel went out with an high hand. 9 But the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baalzephon. 10 And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the Lord. 11 And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt? 12 Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness. 13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. 14 The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.  

KEY VERSE:

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”  Exodus 14:14  

MEDITATION:

The word of God is yeah and amen. He is not a man that He should lie. Our God does not change nor fail like human beings (Numbers 23:19; Titus 1:2; Hebrews 6:18). These are some words of assurance to encourage and energize us, for tough and challenging times must come.  

The Lord promised the Israelites a land flowing with milk and honey for an inheritance, and that His presence would go with them. Despite the miraculous way God freed them from slavery in Egypt after 400 years, when they looked back and saw Pharaoh and his chariots of war, they chided Moses angrily for bringing them out of slavery to die in the desert! They forgot that Moses was not acting on his own. He had the backing of God.  

Whenever we allow current storms and worries of life to make us forget the promises of God, as the children of Israel demonstrated in today’s bible reading, we are bound to go astray and do things not expected of us. Promises of God give hope and enable us to do exploits. Little wonder the Lord instructed Joshua, “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth: but thou shall meditate therein day and night” (Joshua 1:8). It was the only way to prosper. Until we go the way of Joshua we may also fail to remember God’s promises like the children of Israel. To forget the promises of God is synonymous with unbelief!  

In what ways are you forgetting God’s promises in your life?  

PRAYER:

Holy Spirit, please remind me of your promises when am overwhelmed by life’s challenges
