Our Daily Manna Devotional 2 September 2023 TOPIC: WHERE ARE THE POLYCARPS? STAND FOR SOMETHING! BASIC SCRIPTURE: DANIEL 3:8-18

 

As a child of God, what can your friends, neighbours, community, vouch that you stand for? The 3 Hebrew children stood for something and the whole country knew their stand: We will not worship idols! What is your stand on money, women, fame, holiness, idolatry, village meetings, marriage, giving, forgiving, finishing your Bible, discipline, integrity, e.t.c? We live in a generation where people are neither here nor there. Such people are called Truce breakers. The little write-up below is timely: “If you don’t stand for Something, you will always fall for everything. What is your stand…?” Don’t fear those in your office, class, community or nation. Be bold to declare your stand based on God’s Word and without shame. Stand for it even at your village meetings, like the three Hebrew men did in today’s scripture. Remember: What is not worth dying for, is not worth living for. Some ladies are ashamed to declare their faith before certain people because of favours they will receive. This is wrong! Some businessmen/women have no stand – anything goes in their deals! This is wrong! In 160 AD, Bishop Polycarp was the bishop of the Church at Smyrna in Asia Minor (present-day Turkey). Smyrna is now the modern town of Izmir in Turkey! According to the Martyrdom of Polycarp, he died a martyr, bound and burned at the stake, then stabbed when the fire failed to consume his body. Wow! Before his death, he was asked to deny Jesus and he would be set free! But before his persecutors, he declared loud and clear: “Seventy and one year have I served Him. He has done me no harm but good. Why should I deny Him?” Oh! He was killed but he stood for something. Ah! Catch this: God is behind the scenes and controls the scenes behind. What will your family and generation remember you for – what you believed in and stood for? May this 2nd half of 2023, bring out a new you! BE A MODERN-DAY, “POLYCARP” FOR JESUS!
