CHRIST APOSTOLIC CHURCH THE LIVING WATER (January-December, 2023) DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE DATE: Monday, October 23, 2023 TOPIC: NO HOPELESSNESS

MEMORISE

For there is hope for a tree, if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, and that its tender shoots will not cease (Job 14:7)

READ:
Job 7:1-6

[1]. “Is there not a time of hard service for man on earth? Are not his days also like the days of a hired man?

[2]. Like a servant who earnestly desires the shade, And like a hired man who eagerly looks for his wages,

[3]. So I have been allotted months of futility,
And wearisome nights have been appointed to me.

[4]. When I lie down, I say, ‘When shall I arise,
And the night be ended?’ For I have had my fill of tossing till dawn.

[5]. My flesh is caked with worms and dust,
My skin is cracked and breaks out afresh.

[6]. “My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, And are spent without hope.

EXPOSITION

Life is not overlaid with a bed of roses. There are times you cannot escape from some tedious and bone-cracking challenges. Imagine what Job experienced. Within the first chapter, he had lost all that he had, to fire disaster, storm and banditry. His predicament was so much that when his friends came around to sympathise with him, for days, they could not utter a word due to the gravity of what befell him. At some points, his statements showed that he had started to give up. Everything had gone, and his wife that ought to have been there for him wanted him to curse God and die. That was the level of despair and devastation that Job went through. Because some people are not able to survive the least of these, they give up to depression, suicide, bitterness, etc. On no ground should you resort to worry, depression and suicide because, cutting off the head is never a solution to head ache. Do not give up, because very soon, that situation will improve, if you give it time, and seek the help of God. When you give up, you are telling God that He is incapacitated over that particular matter. Meanwhile, the Bible says, there is nothing impossible for God to do. Thank God, Job did not give up (Read Job 14:7). 42:12 confirms 14:7 in his life; all he lost in chapter one were restored here! There is no hopeless situation in your life. You are bouncing back, in Jesus' name, irrespective of your previous chapters of losses.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:
CAC GHB 227

1. Since Christ my soul from sin set free
This world has been a heav'n to me
And mild earth's sorrows and its woe
'Tis heav'n my Jesus here to know

Chorus:
    O hallelujah, yes 'tis heav'n
    Tis heav'n to know my sins forgiv'n;
On land or sea, what matters where
Where Jesus is, 'tis heaven there

2. Once heaven seemed a far-off place
Till Jesus showed His smiling face,
Now it's begun within my soul
'Twill last while endless ages roll

3. What matters where on earth we dwell?
On mountain top, or in the dell?
In cottage, or in mansion fair
Where Jesus is, 'tis heaven there.

Amen.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, make my hope to be alive in You again.

2. Lord, I will bounce back from that bone-cracking situation because, there is hope for a tree when it is cut down, it will sprout again.

3. Lord, give hope and permanent solution to Your children who are facing one difficult challenge or the other.
