Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria Grace for Living Devotional Thursday October 5, 2023 TOPIC: LET THE REVIVAL BEGIN FROM ME

BIBLE READING:

NEHEMIAH 8:1-12

KEY VERSE:

“Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?”  Psalm 85:6

MEDITATION:

The spiritual insensitivity in many of our Churches and our society by extension is painfully sad and depressing. Iniquity and lawlessness have so eaten deep into the church, and threatens to breakdown everything known as righteousness, goodness, holiness, peace and the fear of God. The major cause appears to be the ‘scarcity’ of God’s Word and obedience to His will. The church surely needs urgent revival, and it must begin from you and me!

From the bible reading today, one notices the spiritual revival that broke out in Jerusalem under the leadership of the Scribe-Priest, Ezra. This is the crescendo of the book of Nehemiah because it is the spiritual that controls the physical. When Ezra brought out the Book of the Law of Moses, and read, the people rose to their feet in respect for the Word of God. They listened attentively and there was a spontaneous response! The people wept openly as they realized how far they were from obeying them. Does God’s word compel your attention in this way?

Many years ago, this same effect of God’s word was witnessed in many of the Pentecostal churches and fellowships across Nigeria. Infact, the believers were nicknamed “the weeping church,” a phrase used to describe the intensity of how God’s word pricked the heart of men and women. There were genuine conversions, reconciliations, and restitution.

Can this be said of the present day church and fellowship where the word of God is taken lightly? What may have gone wrong in your view?

PRAYER:

Oh Lord, send down revival and let it start with me.
