BIBLE READING:

PHILIPPIANS 4:1-9

1 Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved. 2 I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord. 3 And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life. 4 Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice. 5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. 9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.  

KEY VERSE:

“Whatsoever things are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8   

MEDITATION:

Children teachers often tell parents to be very careful the things they do, say, watch and places they go because they know that children will do exactly what they see their parents do!   

The story is told of a 7 year old boy who went with his dad for a walk in some muddy resort at the beginning of winter. As they came out of the car to take their walk, the dad cautioned his son, ‘Jeff, be very careful as you play and walk around; it could be slippery sometimes at some spots.’ Jeff responded, ‘dad never worry, I will only put my feet exactly where you have put yours and the direction you follow I will also follow.’ Jeff’s response gave the dad a very sober thought – that his son trusted him enough to follow his footsteps and footprints only as they walked around!  

Apostle Paul writing to the brethren in Philippi reminded them as their teacher and Discipler, of the things which they have learned and received and heard and seen in him. He encouraged them to practice those things in their daily lives. He gave this final charge because he knew that the chances to let them slip were quite high.   

That teachings you have received, the culture of the gospel you have learnt, the lifestyle you have seen among faithful leaders, how much of it do you demonstrate and pass on to those around you?   

PRAYER:

Father Lord, help me to be steadfast and ever abounding in your grace.
