NIGERIAN BAPTIST CONVENTION SEEK DAILY (NBC) Tuesday, October 17 ROOTED IN CHRIST

RBT: Mark 10-11

Memory Verse: …Continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. Colossians 2:6b-7, NIV

Bible Text: Colossians 2:6-8

2:6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him,

2:7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you weretaught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

2:8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.

A farmer whose horses suffered from a condition of excessive salivation came across an advert in a farm magazine offering a N50,000 remedy for this condition. He managed to raise the money and wrote a letter requesting the antidote. In return, he was given a very flat envelope containing a single sheet of paper with the words “Teach your horses to spit.” Clearly, the man was deceived.

Today's passage encourages Christians to maintain a continual walk with Christ and be sensitive in the Spirit. There are three images that show the importance of maintaining our walk and stability with Christ. First, we are rooted in Christ. Christ is our only true source for faith and living. Secondly, we are built up in Christ. Our faith can only grow to maturity in Christ as our solid foundation. Thirdly, Christ alone is the foundation upon which our Christian faith can be fully established. The key to being deeply rooted in faith is to continue abiding in Christ. So, keep Jesus at the centre of your faith and discard every deception. The stronger the roots of your faith, the more glorious your Christian journey becomes.

Insight: Being deeply rooted in Christ enhances our victory over deceptive ideologies.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, take me to deeper realms in my walk with You.
