Bible Text: Psalm 3:1-7

3:1 LORD, how many are my foes!How many rise up against me!

3:2 Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him.”

3:3 But you, LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.

3:4 I call out to the LORD,and he answers me from his holy mountain.

3:5 I lie down and sleep;I wake again, because the LORD sustains me.

3:6 I will not fear though tens of thousandsassail me on every side.

3:7 Arise, LORD!Deliver me, my God!Strike all my enemies on the jaw;break the teeth of the wicked.

Andrew Murray wrote: “God brought me here, it is by His will I am in this strait place. He will make the trial a blessing, teaching me the lessons He intends me to learn. In His goodtime, He can bring me out again—how and when He knows.” 

In today's psalm, David's world crumbled after his son Absalom staged a military coup to dethrone him. It was a moment of fear and hopelessness for David. Like David, what do you do when your world crumbles? Learn to put total confidence in God as your sure Protector. See God as your only claim of glory and the One who lifts you to higher ground and restores your joy. Be reassured that God answers prayers and comes to your rescue when you call on Him. Where do you place your faith and hope in tough times? Like David, learn to eliminate worry from your heart, humble yourself and put your focus and faith in God alone and He will come to your rescue. Sometimes God uses tough times to move us from discouragement to stronger faith and profound confidence in Him.

Insight: Humility before God is the pathway to exaltation in the kingdom.

Prayer: Gracious Lord, rescue me from every sorrow and lift my head from shame to honour.
