Bible Text: Luke 6:35-38

6:35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then

your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 

6:36 Be merciful, just as your Father is

merciful.

6:37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 

6:38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will bemeasured to you.”

There is an adage in Yoruba that is translated thus: “You cannot be born in the house of sheep and behave or act like one born in the house of goat”. This means that you are supposed to behave or look like the one who gave birth to you. You cannot claim to be born of God and His character will not reflect in your life. 

In today's text, Christ gave us some admonition on how to live as children of the Most High. He asks us to love our enemies, to lend without expecting anything in return, to give, even to people we think do not deserve our gifts and also not to judge or condemn others. This is because our Father in heaven also extends His love and kindness to everyone including the wicked and the ungrateful. How much do you practise these commands? Do you show love to everyone or those who love you only? Do you give to others as the Lord blesses you? How merciful are you to your enemies?Determine to live up to expectation today. His grace will be sufficient for you.

Insight: You cannot claim to be His son without doing His will.

Prayer: Lord, give me the grace to live up to Your expectations.
