NIGERIAN BAPTIST CONVENTION SEEK DAILY (NBC) Tuesday, December 5 BE MOULDABLE

RBT: 2 Corinthians 10-13

Memory Verse: “He said, can I not do with you Israel as this potter does? Declares the Lord. Like clay in the hands of the potter, so are you in my hand Israel”. Jeremiah 18:6, NIV

Bible Text: Jeremiah 18:1-7

1:1 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD:

1:2 “Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message.”

1:3 So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel.

1:4 But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.

1:5 Then the word of the LORD came to me.

1:6 He said, “Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?” declares the LORD. “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, Israel.

1:7 If at any time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be uprooted, torn down and destroyed.

R.E. Clements puts the matter of the potter in a concise way: “Can it be thought that God would permit, let alone ordain the destruction of Israel when they are his people?” The prophetic answer is that this can be so, as shown by the analogy of the potter starting afresh by reworking the original clay. God loves us all as His children and friends, and He has great plans for us. In our Bible text, God's love is shown in the reworking of the clay, however painful and unpleasant it might be.

As Christians, let us remember that it was God who created us as humans and not animals, and He did this for a specific purpose. So, when we don't work or walk according to His plans and purposes, like a potter He breaks and remoulds. He reshapes into something better for those who are mouldable while some are cast away. As God's children, we can remain mouldable by the renewal of our mind and not conforming to the world, by turning away from our evil ways and returning to God with a heart of total repentance and brokenness.

Insight: Being mouldable requires total repentance and submission.

Prayer: Father, help me to be mouldable.
