SEEK DAILY (NBC) Thursday, December 7 JESUS SILENCES THE STORM

RBT: Galatians 4-6

Memory Verse: “The disciples went and woke him saying, Master, Master, we're going to drown! He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided and all was calm”. Luke 8:24, NIV

Bible Text: Luke 8:22-25

8:22 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out.

8:23 As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.

8:24 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm.

8:25 “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.

There are situations in life that, with skill, these conditions can be managed. For instance, a trained teacher can calm an unruly class; a mother can calm a restive child, and a doctor can calm an anxious patient with the good news of a favourable medical report. But there may be other situations in which restoring calm is beyond our abilities. Such is the situation that faced the disciples in today's text.

Jesus rebuked the disciples for panicking when they were in a life-threatening storm. If you were one of the disciples who had just been rebuked, what would you have done differently in that storm? Would you come to Jesus like how Lesley went to John? The passage focuses on faith, or perhaps the absence of faith on the part of the disciples. They were afraid and their actions and words were less than what Jesus expected of them. The LORD gently, but firmly, rebuked them for their unbelief and fear.

Faith is fundamental for the followers of Christ because it is by faith that we are saved from our sins. And as believers and friends of Christ, we are to stand firm in faith.

Insight: Have faith in God.

Prayer: LORD Jesus, help me build my faith in You, Amen
