CHRIST APOSTOLIC CHURCH THE LIVING WATER (January- December, 2023) DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE SATE:Tuesday, June 20, 2023

TOPIC:

MY FATHER, MY MENTOR (III)

MEMORISE

 And may not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that did not set its heart aright, and whose spirit was not faithful to God (Psalm 78:8).

READ:

Proverbs 4:20-27

[20] My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings

[21] Do not let them depart from your eyes;

Keep them in the midst of your heart;

[22]. For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.

[23]. Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.

[24]. Put away from you a deceitful mouth, And put perverse lips far from you.

[25]. Let your eyes look straight ahead, And your eyelids look right before you.

[26]. Ponder the path of your feet, And let all your ways be established.

[27]. Do not turn to the right or the left; Remove your foot from evil.

EXPOSITION

An anonymous writer wrote: "My dad is a master communicator. He has the ability to meet new people and develop new friendships. He is a very likeable guy and is knowledgeable about different things. As an adult, I still learn a lot from him." Dear devout, of all things your children may learn from you, let God be the priority. Naturally, all generations of human beings are sinful since the Fall (Rom. 3:9-12). It is, therefore, the responsibility of every father to mentor his family on the path of knowing the One and Only God, YAHWEH (cf. Gen. 18:18).

      The Scripture says this about Jesus: *His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast. When they had finished the days, as they returned, the Boy Jesus lingered behind in Jerusalem. ... Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting amid the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers* (Lk. 2:41-43,46- 47). This record shows how Jesus' earthly parents mentored Him, and the father led the train. Likewise, Joshua and Isaiah did mentor their families well (Jos. 24:15b; Isa. 8:18). Beloved, it is a good and rewarding memoir when your child can say, 'My Father, My Mentor. Don't raise a stubborn and rebellious generation.

 Without the Spirit of Thy Son

 We nothing good can do.

 The praise of every virtuous thought

 And righteous word is Thine.
