TOPIC:MY FATHER, MY MENTOR (IV)

MEMORISE

Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets preached, saying, "Thus says the LORD of hosts: "Turn now from your evil ways and your evil deeds." But they did not hear nor heed Me," says the LORD (Zechariah 1:4).

READ:

2 Kings 21:16-22

[16]. Moreover Manasseh shed very much innocent blood, till he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another, besides his sin by which he made Judah sin, in doing evil in the sight of the Lord.

[17]. Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh—all that he did, and the sin that he committed—are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 

[18]. So Manasseh rested with his fathers, and was buried in the garden of his own house, in the garden of Uzza. Then his son Amon reigned in his place.

[19]. Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Meshullemeth the daughter of Haruz of Jotbah. 

[20]. And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, as his father Manasseh had done. 

[21]. So he walked in all the ways that his father had walked; and he served the idols that his father had served, and worshiped them. 

[22]. He forsook the Lord God of his fathers, and did not walk in the way of the Lord.

EXPOSITION

Stop. Don't read the exposition yet. Firstly, read the Bible passage for today (2 Kings 21:16-22) well, and you will be speechless about how Amon was ruined through bad mentoring from his father, King Manasseh. The Scripture says, *And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, as his father Manasseh had done* (v. 20). My father, my mentor. Ask yourself honestly, the kind of influence (godly or reckless) you wield over your family. Sincerely speaking, what are your children learning from how you are parenting them? My father, my mentor

    Sadly, the sins of Manasseh became terribly bad and detestable that God had to remove from His sight, the southern kingdom of Israel (Judah) *because of the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he had done* (2 Kgs. 24:3). According to 2 Chronicles 33:6, *...he burned his sons as an offering in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, and used fortune-telling and omens and sorcery, and dealt with mediums and with necromancers. He did much evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking him to anger.* What epitaph will be on your tomb and on the hearts of your loved ones after your demise? Live a life that God and man, especially your children, would talk all through as that of great positive influence. Don't be a shameless father leading the children. away from God into the pit of destruction and hell.

PRAYER POINTS

1. O Lord, help me to live right, that others might get it right through me.

2. Lord, help me to model Your own kind of life to generations after me. 

3. Pray that husbands/fathers who have abandoned their homes should receive divine push right now to return home to their responsibilities.
