TOPIC: LOVE LIKE GOD

MEMORISE

Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another (1 John 4:11).

READ:

1 John 4:7-12

[7]. Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.

[8]. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

[9]. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.

[10]. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

[12]. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

[12]. No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us.

EXPOSITION

There is no way you would know the details about an appliance more more than the manufacturer. Love is a Siamese twin with God. There is no way we will talk about true love without O God, and vice versa. Love, though abstract, when approached biblically, is more of an action than being abstract. It is more than a theory or mere principle. Real love is practical and practicable. Love (Grk. agape) is an unconditional affection, i.e. with no ulterior motive. It is love because God is in it. What sort of love do people display when it comes to celebration or occasion? "He gave me #100,000 during my daughter's wedding; I will also give him #100,000 now that it is his turn." That isn't love. Helping a fellow in need should not be because he/she will pay back! (cf. Matt. 6:1-2).

John the Apostle helps us to really analyse what it means to love like God. Under inspiration, he confirmed that God is love, so anyone that is born of Him has love (1 Jn. 4:7). He who lacks love is godless (v. 8). God's love is manifested in sending His only Son into the world to redeem the undeserving man (vv. 9-10). This is the kind of love He expects us to show to one another; no tribalism, no boundary. You must love because God commands it. You don't yet have love like God, if you salute and give to only those who salute and give to you (Matt. 5:45ff). Love like God!

CAC GHB 693

1. "Love him who's thy neighbour"

 It is the Lord's command

 He made Himself an example

By the way He loved us.

2. "Love him who's thy neighbour"

 Whether in peace or war

He taught us to love all our foes,

 Repay evil with good.

3. "Love him who's thy neighbour"

 The Lord's voice trumpets still

So, all of us ought to prepare

 To love all our neighbours.

4. "Love him who's thy neighbour"

 And those living next door

Those that are in your neighbourhood

 And all your enemies.

5. To love our neighbours as

 Jesus Himself loved us

 Jesus loved all His enemies

And blessed and prayed for them.

Amen.
