TEXT: JOHN 13:31-38

TOPIC: LOVE, THE NECESSARY INGREDIENT IN CHRISTIANITY

JOHN 13:31-38 NIV

31:When he was gone, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man is glorified and God is glorified in him.

32:If God is glorified in him, God will glorify the Son in himself, and will glorify him at once.

33:“My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come.

34:“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

35:By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

36:Simon Peter asked him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus replied, “Where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow later.”

37:Peter asked, “Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.”

38:Then Jesus answered, “Will you really lay down your life for me? Very truly I tell you, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times!

LOVE, THE NECESSARY INGREDIENT IN CHRISTIANITY

Love is lacking in the contemporary Christian experience. 

Love was emphasized throughout the ministries of Jesus and His apostles and human beings continue to talk about it even today. But we neither seem to understand the fullness of love nor pay attention to manifesting it. 

Jesus gave His disciples a new command while talking about His death and instructed them to show the world through love that they were His disciples. 

Peter thought that demonstrating love was merely through the word of mouth when he said that he was willing to die for Jesus but He made him understand otherwise.

You must also know that Jesus has not changed this commandment. 

Therefore, we must work earnestly to manifest the true love Jesus brought to this world. 

We should show the full extent of this love in order to draw people to Him and give glory to His name (see 1 Corinthians 13).

*QUESTION:* Do you manifest the type of love that Jesus commands Christians to show?

*PRAYER:* Dear father, I am sorry that I have failed You in the aspect of showing love as Your disciple. Please help me and grant me the grace to impact the world with Your love. Amen.
