THE SPIRITUAL BIRTH

RBT: Jeremiah 50

Memory Verse: “Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.” John 3:6, NIV

Bible Text: John 3:3-8

3:3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” 

3:4 “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” 

3:5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 

3:6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 

3:7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ 

3:8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

Any child born into a family has an identity which can be seen either through physical resemblance or by some traits similar to the parents'. The spiritual genes of Christ will differentiate those who belong to Jesus from those who are not born spiritually. 

In response to Nicodemus' strange question, Jesus told him that no one could see the kingdom unless the person is born again.This means that no one born of a natural birth will be accepted into God's kingdom without spiritual birth. When you are born of the Spirit, you will not fulfil the lust of the flesh; instead, you will be guided and controlled by the Spirit for “flesh gives birth to flesh and the Spirit gives birth to spirit: v6. 

Just like Nicodemus, what are the questions running through your mind? Are you in church but not in Christ? Do you have titles and positions in church but you are not known by the Owner of the church, Jesus Christ? 

It is not too late to accept Jesus Christ as your personal LORD and Saviour, and have access to the kingdom.

Insight: Spiritual birth is the qualification to enter the Kingdom of God.

Prayer: Father, help me not to toy with my spiritual birth and identity in Christ.
