TOPIC: REPRESENTING JESUS

BIBLE READING:

COLOSSIANS 3:12-17

12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. 14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

KEY VERSE:

“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”  Colossians 3:17

MEDITATION:

The call to be a disciple of Christ is a privilege. It is a call to be heaven’s representative on earth. It is a call to duty. It is a call that comes with responsibility. “We are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God” (2 Corinthians 5:20).

As God’s representatives on earth, Christians are to comport themselves every where they go in a manner that brings honour and glory to God (1 Corinthians 10:31). The Bible records that the disciples of Christ were first called Christians in Antioch because they were Christ-like in their attitudes and behaviour (Acts 11:26).

What are people seeing in us as Christ’s disciples today? Our words and actions are true pictures of who we are. What people see us say and do determine the way we will be addressed by them. We must walk in the steps of the Master. We must represent Him well in our little corner and everywhere we find ourselves. By their fruits we shall know them, the scriptures say. We must go out daily to show the beauty of Jesus Christ with our lives reflecting the brightness of His glory by the manifestation of the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). The Holy Spirit indwells us to help us live His life through us.

Are you a true disciple of Christ? Does your life attract or repel people to Jesus?

PRAYER:

Father Lord, make my life a rallying point for men and women to come to Jesus.
