TOPIC: TOM DOTSON: DON’T GIVE UP ON THEM NOW!

BASIC SCRIPTURE: Mark 6:30-44 (KJV)

Welcome! Tom Dotson spent more than a decade behind bars in the prison of Michigan. Tom gave his testimony at the annual banquet for prison chaplains in Muskegon, Michigan. He said he had grown up in a Christian home but had rebelled and rejected the gospel. His wife, who sang at the banquet, stayed with him in spite of his repeated failures. A prison chaplain faithfully worked with him and Tom genuinely surrendered to Jesus Christ, and his life was changed. Dotson urged Christian workers: “Continue on in your ministry with people like me, no matter how frustrating. We may have lots of setbacks. But don’t give up on us. There’s power for change in even the most frustrating person through the sacrifice of Christ, the One who really sets us free.” Then, looking right at the chaplain who had patiently witnessed to him, Tom said tenderly, “Thank you for not giving up on me.” Amazing! The Holy Ghost wants to use today’s devotional to encourage Parents, Guardians, Prison Chaplains, Evangelists, Pastors and Christians generally not to give up on any soul around them or those under their care! Yes, keep on talking, preaching and ministering to them and leave the rest for the HOLY SPIRIT! Sometimes the needed change does not come or happen immediately, but if you keep at it and don’t give up, your labour and toil will not be in vain. If that chaplain had given up on Tom Dotson too soon, that soul would have been eternally lost. Notice that it took over ten years for the needed change in Tom’s life to happen. Sin cannot flourish where godliness is cultivated! Father, I repent from ways in which I have allowed crumbs and garbages of sin in my life, MY TEMPLE!

Satan, you are a liar; no more CRUMBS for you in my life this year in Jesus name.

I receive the grace to be a “cleanaholic” (working out my holiness with fear and trembling) daily as I run this race in Jesus name.
