CHRIST APOSTOLIC CHURCH THE LIVING WATER (January-December, 2023) DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE DATE: Tuesday, September 26, 2023 TOPIC: AWAY WITH YOU, SATAN (II)

MEMORISE

But He turned and said to Peter, "Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men (Matthew 16:23).

READ:

Matthew 16:21-23

[21]. From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.

[22]. Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!”

[23]. But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”

EXPOSITION

To become a Christian is as simple as Peter's confession in Matthew 16:16. The simplest biblical equation of genuine salvation is *that if you confess with your i mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation* (Rom. 10:9-10). However, to live the victorious Christian life over Satan, sin and self, demands a daily lifestyle of: *Away with you, Satan!* But this is not doable by the flesh. Imagine Peter, who, few hours earlier, had confessed Jesus as Christ, the Son of the Living God, now shifted his priority from the heavenly to mundane. He decried the words of Christ that He would suffer and be killed by the heathen, but would be raised the third day, and was ready to forestall these. He even rebuked him, impliedly saying that Jesus did not know what He was talking about, thereby suggesting that he knew more than the Lord did. We are not better than Peter though, judging by the way we often talk and behave. Many people who have accepted Christ refuse to trust Him with their lives or believe His words judgements over matters of life. Some would rather choose to rely on human philosophies, traditions and science, rather than on what Christ says. The natural man tends to please himself than saying: *Away with you, Satan,* whenever human logics stand against God.

Do not be caught by the whims and caprices of this world. Satan is no match to you when you live by God's Word and Spirit.

Conquerors are we, thro' the blood of Jesus

God will give us victory, thro' the blood of Jesus

Through the lamb for sinners slain,

 More than conquerors are we,

 More than conquerors are we,

 Overcoming sin and all unrighteousness;

Not to us but unto Him the praise shall be,

For salvation and for blood bought victory.

Here to eat of hidden manna sent from Heaven,

Over yonder He the victors palm shall bear,

And a robe of white, and golden crown shall wear.
