Bible Text: Romans 10:1-4

10:1 Brothers and sisters, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 

10:2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. 

10:3 Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. 

10:4 Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

“Knowledge is power” is a popular saying. The knowledge needed to solve any problem in life cannot be substituted with zeal. Therefore, knowledge is the power we all need to overcome any challenge. 

The apostle Paul expressed concern for the Jews who were zealously religious but unsaved. He stressed that they lack the knowledge of God they claimed to worship. The Jews did not embrace the righteousness of God through Christ but sought to establish their own righteousness. They held tightly to the law which can neither save nor make them acceptable to God since Christ is the end of the law. What the law could not achieve has been fully accomplished in Christ. 

Some have experienced the frustration of knowing what God can do for others and yet, still surrounded by people who have zeal for God but not according to knowledge. Such people that desire to do things their own way and not God's way. Some people have embarked on spiritual journey into the spirit world in futile search for the so-called enlightenment. 

Are you thirsty for God? Are you attempting to get close to God through personal rules and regulations? Such attempt will fail because it is only in Christ that you can find God and His righteousness.

Insight: Doing zealous work without the knowledge of God's will is a futile exercise.
