NIGERIAN BAPTIST CONVENTION SEEK DAILY (NBC) Thursday, September 28 MORE THAN A PROPHET

RBT: Zechariah 1-5

Memory Verse: Then, what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I did tell you, and more than a prophet. Matthew 11:9, NIV

Bible Text: Matthew 11:7-11

11:7 As John’s disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swayed by the wind?

11:8 If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings’ palaces.

11:9 Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.

11:10 This is the one about whom it is written: “ ‘I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.’

11:11 Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

In 2007, History as a subject was removed from the curriculum in Nigeria by the Federal Government. Even before that year, history was not a core subject but embedded in social studies lessons. The implication is that history of the past would be completely strange to the students of that generation.

John the Baptist was imprisoned for rebuking Herod for taking his brother's wife, Herodias. The incident devastated him and his disciples. He sent his disciples to inquire if Jesus is the Messiah or they should be expecting another one. Jesus described the activities of His own ministry as a response. Jesus' response was not for His praise, but for the people's profit.

Unlike other prophets anointed by God, John was commissioned with the responsibility of preparing the way for the coming of Jesus Christ, along with His ministry and teachings. This great honour puts John's prophecies and works above all of the other prophets in the Bible.

God is expecting that every child of His be courteous, and determined. You are expected to be committed and dedicated to every assignment for the expansion of the Kingdom of God.

Insight: Let honour be given to whom honour is due.

Prayer: God, help me not to disappoint You in my divine assignment.
