Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria Grace for Living Devotional Monday October 16, 2023 TOPIC: COULD BE POPULAR, YET DESTRUCTIVE

BIBLE READING:

PROVERBS 1:7-15

7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. 8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: 9 For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck. 10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. 11 If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause: 12 Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: 13 We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil: 14 Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse: 15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:

KEY VERSE:

“My Son, walk not thou in the way with them, refrain thy foot from their path.”  Proverbs 1:15

MEDITATION:

We live in a world where abnormal and absurd things now appear normal and allowed freely. The clamour for human rights, freedom of thoughts and choice seem to have been taken to a strange dimension. It becomes more worrisome because the church seems to have been compromised - no absolute right or wrong. These appear very popular but judged by the only standard of truth, the word of God, self-destruction has become inescapable.

I engaged a young lady recently from my local church for some official assignment in my Agency. During her first week at work, I noticed some behavioural changes very different from what I knew of her in church. Firstly, I noticed she had a low cut and had applied some expensive golden dye on her hair, similar to two other ladies who were non-believers in the Agency. Second, her attendance in Sunday services had become so infrequent. Thirdly, I saw on her ankle an 18 karat gold chain. I became worried because I knew her salary, and wondered how she could afford such a drastic and expensive lifestyle change within 2 months at her new job. I later found out she had joined the ‘big girls’ in the Agency to date rich men who took them out on weekend cruises. Thankfully, the youth leader in the church was alerted and she nicely engaged the young lady who restored her from a ‘free fall to doom.’

Are there any unprofitable, but popular gangs you are getting associated with because of some temporal benefits?

PRAYER:

Father Lord, deliver me from unprofitable relationships that can ruin my Christian faith.
