NIGERIAN BAPTIST CONVENTION SEEK DAILY (NBC) Saturday, October 14 GOD'S FAVOUR

RBT: Mark 4-5

Memory Verse: Now God had caused the official to show favour and sympathy to Daniel. Daniel 1:9

Bible Text: Daniel 1:8-14

1:8 But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.

1:9 Now God had caused the official to show favor and compassion to Daniel,

1:10 but the official told Daniel, “I am afraid of my lord the king, who has assigned your food and drink. Why should he see you looking worse than the other young men your age? The king would then have my head because of you.”

1:11 Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah,

1:12 “Please test your servants for ten
days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink.

1:13 Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see.”

1:14 So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days.

We live in a world driven by ungodly values and practices. Nevertheless, God expects His children to live in the light and consciousness of the Kingdom. Daniel, a Jewish slave in a foreign land, strategically positioned himself as a candidate of God's favour. He resolved to discipline himself and stood by his religious convictions and values. He considered the royal food they were served by the Babylonians as ceremonially unclean by the standard of the Jewish law. Daniel realised that such food would lead to spiritual defilement and he rejected it.

God expects your life as His child, both in secret and the open, to be free from defilement. He requires of you to take a stand not to conform to the pattern of this world even if everyone else is doing it. When you act, not as everyone else but as God's child, you position yourself strategically as a candidate of God's favour.

_*If you also choose to stand for God wherever you find yourself, God will work behind the scene for your favour. Resolve this day to standout to honour God wherever you find yourself.*_

Insight: It's more blessed to enjoy God's favour than to enjoy the temporary pleasures of sin.

Prayer: God, I resolve this day to stand out to honour You wherever I find myself.
